In John 14 and verse 6, Jesus makes one of the most comprehensive statements in the Bible about who He really is. He is just in the process of announcing to His disciples that He must leave them. He is about to go to the cross and give His life for them (a fact that He has repeatedly told them, but they haven’t understood yet) and then He will leave another Helper, or Comforter to come alongside them in the work of building His church. He gives His disciples some incredible assurance in the few verses at the beginning of the chapter, but He also makes an incredible claim, which cuts through and challenges every other belief system that has ever come about in this world – Jesus makes a claim to absolute exclusivity – ‘no-one comes to the Father except through me.’ Read More
