A big part of fearing God means understanding the terrible prospect of turning away from Him and the mercy He has shown us. God gave us the awesome sacrifice of Jesus through which He has made every provision for us to be saved from His wrath – why would we want to run away from such a loving Father? (more…)

Jesus reserved some of His strongest descriptions for hypocrites. One of the reasons for this could be that the root of hypocrisy is pride. The frequency and variety of Jesus’ calls for humility show His abomination of pride, because pride is the opposite of true humility.
Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, for in like manner their fathers did to the prophets. – Luke 6v23
